PRP Q & A

What is PRP?

Your blood appears to be liquid, but it actually consists of plasma — the fluid part — and several solids including your red and white blood cells and your platelets. PRP is a serum made of your plasma and platelets. Your platelets are abundant in the proteins and growth factors necessary for cell repair and regeneration.

PRP injections harness the power of those growth factors and deliver a concentrated amount of them to injured or degenerated tissue to help your body repair itself.

What conditions benefit from PRP injections?

At Better Life Stem Cell Center, Dr. Valpiani uses PRP injections to treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sports injuries
  • Muscle injuries

Additionally, Dr. Valpiani uses PRP injections in antiaging treatment plans to reverse signs of aging on your skin or to repair and restore other stiff or sore tissue that’s suffering the effects of aging. He also uses PRP injections to treat hair loss.

What should I expect during a PRP injection?

Your PRP treatment begins with a blood draw, which may feel similar to making a blood donation.

Then, Dr. Valpiani separates the components of your blood in a centrifuge. He combines your plasma and platelets to create a serum that has 5-10 times more platelets than a regular blood sample.

When your serum is ready, Dr. Valpiani injects it into your body. Depending on your needs, he may inject it into your skin or scalp to address signs of aging and hair loss.

He may inject your PRP serum directly into injured or damaged tissue, including tendons, ligaments, and muscle. If you have arthritis, he can make the injection straight into your affected joints.

PRP injections take a little while to create noticeable changes as your body needs time to repair and generate cells. You may also need a series of treatments for optimal results for both injury and antiaging treatments.

However, you don’t need to take any time off to recover after your treatments. In many cases, you won’t even need a local anesthetic while receiving the injections.
